Cells: Biology One Liner Questions for SSC, Railway
Cell organelles- classified into 3 categories:
(i) Without membrane: Not bounded by any membrane. present in both prokaryotic & eukaryotic organisms. e.g.-Ribosomes
(ii) Single membrane-bound: bounded by a single membrane.
For example- vacuole, lysosome, Golgi Apparatus, Endoplasmic Reticulum etc.
present only in a eukaryotic cell.
*(iii) Double membrane-bound: present only in a eukaryotic cell.
Example- mitochondria and chloroplast
Cell Wall- Made up of Cellulose in plant & Peptidoglycan in bacteria.
Nucleus- Covered by a double membranous nuclear membrane in a Eukaryotic Cell.
>Contains chromosomes or DNA, RNA, Protein, nucleolus.
>Function- Starts cell division.
Mitochondria-
>Autonomous body as contains its own DNA.
>Self-duplicates
Golgi Bodies- Function: Modification, Packaging, and transport of materials.
Endoplasmic Reticulum (Framework of Cell)-Forms the skeletal framework of the cell.
Lysosomes- Intracellular digestion of food in unicellular organisms.
Vacuole-
>Store cell sap which may be liquid or solid food, toxic byproduct.
Provide rigidity and turgidity to plant cell.
>Not fix shape or size. cell can change them as it wants.
Plastids- Types-
(i) Leucoplast –Colourless plastid;
(ii) Chromoplast –Coloured Plastid – blue, red, yellow
(iii) Chloroplast – Green plastid
>Autonomous self-duplicating body

One Liners Questions
1). Cell theory was proposed by
[Schleiden and Schwann]
2). The only cell organelle seen in prokaryotic cell is
[Ribosomes]
>Not bounded by any membrane.
3). Which animal cell structure is characterized by selective permeability ?
[Cell membrane]
4). The process of mitosis is divided into 4 phases. correct order of phases-
[Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase and Telophase]
>mitosis-type of cell division that results in two daughter cells each having the same number and kind of chromosomes as the parent nucleus
5). undefined nuclear region in a bacteria is
[nucleoid]
>The nucleoid (meaning nucleus-like) is an irregularly shaped region within the cell of a prokaryote that contains all or most of the genetic material.
6). The main arena of various types of activities of a cell is
[Cytoplasm]
>It consists of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, nucleic acids, vitamins, waste metabolites and all organelles.
*7). Nuclear material without cover is found in
[Bacteria and Blue green algae]
> Blue-green algae (also known as Cyanobacteria) are a group of photosynthetic bacteria that many people refer to as "pond scum."
8). Nucleus plays a crucial part in
[cellular reproduction]- Cell division
9). Organelle other than nucleus, containing DNA is
[Mitochondira]
10). Mitochondria are present in both animals and plants and it contain DNA. >>but in plants, also plastids have their own DNA & ribosomes.
So Mitochondria & plastids are two cell organelle outside the nucleus that contain DNA.
